The following is a list of rules and restictions for the #Wasteland channel.
These have been agreed upon by the channel administrators and will be enforced
upon breaking of one of these rules. You may or may not be warned prior
to a kick/ban when you fail to follow these guidelines.
NEVER ever kick or ban or De-op WasteDump
-- unless for some reason he is going haywire or seems compromised in any
way.
Your responsibility when opped is to try and protect all the users and
the channel and see it is not flooded or disrupted, so more people feel
welcome and have a relaxing time (including the channel ops!).
Help the Newbies, if you can, or redirect them to #help or #mirc or
#cservice or whatever the
appropriate chanel is for them as soon as possible. It would be nice to
have some addresses available for them to get software and utilities that
could help them get started-- one good address for this is
http://www.tucows.com/software.html
If you are not busy (and no one else has bothered) when someone comes
into the room, say hello to them; it only takes a second and makes them
feel a little more comfortable.
Leave squabbles off the main channel. If you do not agree with something
said to you, or said aloud in the room, say so, but if it is going to
become a full-scale argument then take it to a private room or /msg if
you wish to pursue it further.
Do NOT kick or ban someone because you are having a disagreement with
them in a private message. If you are being attacked in private, feel
free to type /ignore nick or if neccessary type /silence *!*@hostmask to
avoid being bothered. But try NOT to set bans on people because "You
don't like them" or "They bothered you". If the person abusing you in
private is an OP then log the abuse and make sure to inform the Channel
Manager, or one of the admins as to the abuse.
Kick and ban bashers and flooders!!! Period. People running lame
MIRCwars scripts, takeover floodbots, 7th sphere, cloning with intent to
takeover or flood, or screaming "IRCOPS SUCK DIE DIE DIE" or similar
stuff do NOT get warnings. They get shown the door.
Try and remember what it was like to be a newbie, someone who maybe
joined a channel by accident or because they didn't know to turn off
auto-join on invite. And be tolerent with people who do not even know how
to leave the channel let alone use flood protection or list channels.
Try and remember why you came on irc... it is supposed to be fun :)
Special thanks to AngelBaby for the compilation of these guidelines.
